Monsignor Ramón Darío Valdivia Giménez

EXCMO. AND RVDMO. SR. D. RAMÓN DARÍO VALDIVIA GIMÉNEZ, AUXILIARY BISHOP OF SEVILLE

Appointed Titular Bishop of Egabro and Auxiliary Bishop of Seville on April 1, 2023, he received episcopal ordination on May 27, 2023, in the Cathedral of Seville.

Ramón Darío Valdivia Giménez was born in Osuna (Seville) on December 16, 1974, and was ordained a priest by Monsignor Amigo Vallejo on September 14, 2003, during a Eucharist celebrated in the nave of the Crucero of the Cathedral of Seville.

His first assignments as a priest were the parish of Nuestra Señora de Valme and Beato Marcelo Spínola, in Dos Hermanas, where he was parochial vicar for a year, chaplain at the Hospital del Tomillar and at the Sisters of Charity of Santa Ana.

Between 2004 and 2008 he studied in Rome, obtaining a degree in Philosophy from the Pontifical Gregorian University and a doctorate in Ecclesiastical Philosophy from the Pontifical Lateran University.

Upon his return to Seville, he was appointed parish priest of Santa María de la Asunción, in Mairena del Alcor. There he carried out his ministry until July 2010, when he began his work at the Metropolitan Seminary as vice rector. The following year he began his dedication in the Vocational Pastoral Team, and directing the Diocesan Commission for the formation of aspirants and candidates to the Permanent Diaconate.

Teaching

Between 2012 and 2018 he directed the Center for Theological Studies, today the Faculty of Theology “San Isidoro de Sevilla where he is professor and director of the department of Pastoral and History. On August 31, 2015, he began his association with the Parish of San Roque, in Seville, of which he is currently pastor. D. in Law from the Faculty of Law of the University of Seville (2020) and professor in the Law Degree of the Centro de Estudios Universitarios Cardenal Spínola – CEU. Since September 2020 he has been a canon, and since July 2022 he has been Episcopal vicar of the Seville 1 zone.

He is the author of the following monographs: ‘Call for a peaceful mission. The religious dimension of freedom in Bartolomé de las Casas‘ (2011), ‘Bartolomé de las Casas‘ (2012),and.  The birth of modernity. Justice and Power in the thought of Bartolomé de las Casas (2021), as well as other scientific publications.
